**Chinese Tycoon Guo Wengui Sentenced to 30 Years in US Prison for Massive Fraud Scheme**
**New York –** Chinese billionaire Guo Wengui, also known by his aliases Miles Kwok and Miles Guo, has been sentenced to 30 years in a U.S. federal prison for orchestrating a sprawling fraudulent scheme that swindled his followers out of over $1 billion.
Guo, who styled himself as a vocal critic of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and a whistleblower, leveraged his anti-Beijing persona and social media presence to attract a large following, primarily among the Chinese diaspora. He then exploited their trust and anti-CCP sentiments to promote a series of fictitious investment opportunities.
**Details of the Scheme:**
Prosecutors revealed that Guo operated several entities, including:
* **GTV Media Group:** A purported media and entertainment company where he solicited investments with promises of high returns.
* **Himalaya Coin (HCN):** A cryptocurrency scheme promoted as a digital asset that would revolutionize finance.
* **Himalaya Farm Alliance:** An investment vehicle that promised exclusive access and significant profits to those who contributed to his “cause.”
* **G|CLUBS:** An exclusive membership program offering access to luxury goods and services, which largely served to enrich Guo himself.
A federal jury in New York found Guo guilty of multiple counts of wire fraud, securities fraud, and money laundering earlier this year. Evidence presented at trial showed that he diverted the vast majority of the funds for his personal enrichment, funding a lavish lifestyle that included a 50,000-square-foot mansion, a luxury yacht, and sports cars, while his victims lost their life savings.
In addition to the lengthy prison term, Guo has been ordered to pay $1.4 billion in restitution and forfeit $1.1 billion in assets, though the recovery of these funds for victims remains a complex process. The case has drawn significant attention, highlighting the risks associated with online financial schemes, especially those that prey on political ideologies and community trust. Guo Wengui was previously arrested in March 2023.
