We are saddened to report the passing of Sir Ian Wood, the influential Aberdeen-based businessman and philanthropist who transformed his family’s boat repair firm into a global oil and gas engineering giant, at the age of 84.
As the visionary behind the Wood Group, he grew the enterprise from a small family business into a multinational powerhouse, becoming a key player in the North Sea and global energy industry. His strategic leadership and entrepreneurial spirit significantly shaped the energy sector and contributed immensely to the Scottish economy. Beyond his profound business achievements, Sir Ian was also widely respected for his extensive philanthropic work, particularly in his native Aberdeen, leaving a lasting legacy of economic development and community support.
